This happened last summer. So this year I emptied out the filter. I used sand paper to ruff it up a bit. Then used a platic-use 2 part epoxy to seal it.

I have a Hayward sand filter and the tank has a tiny crack at the top along the seam. Although it is a tiny crack, due to the pressure, I imagine a fair amount of water is escaping this way.
